PVH CEO David A. Shannon presents the medals at the end of the 5K Run/Walk for Wellness

July 20 —A total of 75 people participated in the 3rd annual 5k Run/Walk for Wellness on Sunday, July 18, sponsored by Penobscot Valley Hospital and S.P.R.I.N.T. for Life, a Healthy Maine Partnership. The event was held as part of the Homecoming Festival in Lincoln, and it was a way for the hospital and its supporters to promote healthy lifestyles and good choices concerning exercise and wellness.

"At PVH, we want to do all we can to encourage people to make healthy choices including proper diet and getting more active, says hospital spokesperson Allison Bankston. "We had some very dedicated volunteers on Sunday, and I'd like to thank all of the hospital and S.P.R.I.N.T. for Life staff members and community volunteers who donated their time to help us have a successful event."

S.P.R.I.N.T. for Life Director Robin Carr-Slauenwhite also make a point of thanking all the town and emergency responders who helped keep everyone safe and direct traffic during the event. "We had police, fire, and town officials all ensuring that our runners and walkers had a clear path and could reach the finished line in safety, and we really appreciate all of their help."

The course looped through 3.1. miles (5K) of Lincoln. The first 50 registrants received a free t-shirt, and each walker and runner was entered into a raffle for a variety of prices including yoga mats and healthy cookbooks.

The top overall male winner was Matt Guiod with a time of 18:39, and in the women's overall standings, the top woman was Andrea Johnson with a time of 23:33.

HOMECOMING FIREWORKS TO HAVE NEW FEATURES THIS YEAR!!!

HOMECOMING UPDATE: More than 70 units have signed on for the parade including 10 Anah Shrine units and the Bangor Community Band.

April 23 - This week, Community Events Coordinator Shelly Crosby and Fire Chief Phillip Dawson met with Steven Marson, President of Central Maine Pyrotechnics, to discuss the 2010 Lincoln Homecoming Festival fireworks display. They walked around of Cobb Field and discussed safety.

Many new displays, including water fireworks, a new design that islaunched beneath the lake’s surface creating illumination of the lake base and then launched 75’ to 100’ into the air! These are eco-friendly, biodegradable and were first displayed last summer along the east coast. Central Maine Pyrotechnics is one of the only companies in the Northeast who use these special fireworks.

The show should last about 22-25 minutes. Be sure to be there! Over the next month, Chief Dawson and Mrs. Crosby will be working with the Warden service to arrange security of the water safe zone perimeter which will need to be at least 350 feet.

February 5 - According to Shelly Crosby, Events Coordinator for the Town of Lincoln, the entertainment for this summer's Homecoming is really starting to take shape! One particular act that has been finalized after months of negotiating is the Rise Above Extreme BMX/Skateboarding Pro Show. This exciting ensemble of characters is known nationally for stunt work and professional gigs such as: X-Games, The Mt. Dew Action Sports Tour, MTV, MTV2, CBS, NBC, ABC, Camp Woodward, The CBS Early Show, Great American Fundraising, QSP Fundraising, Levis, CVS, Pepsi, Ball Park Beef Franks, The Wasserman Media Group, Clear Channel, Live Nation, NBA, NFL, Time-Warner,to name only a few. They'll be in the parade on July 17th as well as performing two shows that afternoon in Veteran's Memorial Square.

According to Crosby," “This is the first time that this nationally known group has performed in the State of Maine, and it is exciting that Lincoln has the opportunity to share this dynamic group during our festival. I’m sure that the kids and older folks too, will get a kick out of their performances!”

The Roaming Railroad (pictured above) was enjoyed by kids and adults alike last year, and plans are being made for a return again this summer. Much more is being planned for this summer's Homecoming here in Lincoln, the week of July 11th, so mark your calendars now!
